How to take shilajit resin: how much, how and when
Short answer: Use the spoon to take a pea-sized portion of shilajit resin (about 100 mg), dissolve it in warm, not boiling, water, tea or milk, and drink it. For our resin, the advice is 1 to 2 times a day, preferably during or just after a meal. More is not better: stay within the daily dose on your label.

Shilajit resin is the traditional form of shilajit: a sticky, brown-black resin in a jar. It takes some getting used to. How much do you take? How do you get it to dissolve? And what do you do when the resin is rock hard or sticks to everything? Below, you can read how we do it.
To be upfront: at GOYU we sell Shilajit Resin ourselves. All doses in this article come from our label. If you use another brand, follow the label of that product.

How much shilajit resin per day?
For our Shilajit Resin, the advice is a pea-sized portion, about 100 mg, 1 to 2 times a day. That is 100 to 200 mg a day. There is no official daily dose for shilajit; every brand puts its own advice on the label.
| What | How much |
|---|---|
| One portion | The size of a pea, about 100 mg |
| How often | 1 to 2 times a day |
| Per day | 100 to 200 mg |
| 50-gram jar | 250 to 500 days |
Research often used larger amounts. In the only study with shilajit resin we found in PubMed, 25 healthy men took 250 mg of another brand twice a day for 28 days, without a control group (Yadav et al., 2026). Studies with extracts used 250 to 1,000 mg a day. Those were different products with a different composition, so they say nothing about how much of our resin you should take. Follow the label.
How do you take shilajit resin? Step by step
You take shilajit resin by dissolving a small portion in a warm drink. Here's how:
- Take the spoon provided and scoop up a pea-sized portion, about 100 mg.
- Put the portion in a cup of warm water, tea or milk. Warm, not boiling.
- Stir until the resin has dissolved. If a little is left over, stir a bit longer or let it stand briefly.
- Drink it, preferably during or just after a meal.
- Wipe the spoon clean, close the lid tightly and put the jar in a dry, cool place.
The spoon helps you take roughly the same amount each time. A pea is not an exact measure, so go for a small rather than a large portion.
What drink is best for dissolving shilajit resin?
Our label lists three options: warm water, tea or milk. In a cold drink the resin actually gets harder, so warm works best.
Pure shilajit tastes earthy, smoky and bitter. If you find that hard to get used to, use tea with a little honey, where the taste is less noticeable. If you don't want to taste anything at all, capsules are more convenient. You can see our resin and capsules side by side on the buy shilajit page.
When should you take shilajit resin?
Our advice is to take shilajit resin during or just after a meal, 1 or 2 times a day. There is no research on the best time of day.
If you take it twice a day, split it over breakfast and lunch, for example. Above all, choose a fixed moment that fits your day, so you don't forget it.
Why is shilajit resin sometimes hard and sometimes soft?
Shilajit reacts to temperature: in the cold the resin becomes hard, in the warmth soft and sticky. That is normal and says nothing about its quality.
- Too hard? Warm the jar in your hand for a moment. Then it's easier to scoop out a portion.
- Too soft and sticky? Put the jar somewhere cooler for a while and the resin will firm up again.
How do you store shilajit resin?
Store shilajit resin in a dry and cool place and out of reach of young children. That is also what our label says. Close the lid tightly after use. The best-before date is on the packaging.
A fridge isn't necessary. If you do put the jar in it, the resin becomes harder and you'll need to warm it in your hand first.
Who should check with a doctor first?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication, or have high blood pressure or a chronic condition, check with your doctor or pharmacist first. There is a report of a pregnant woman who developed high blood pressure and a low potassium level after six months of mumijo (Stavropoulos et al., 2018). Long-term research in humans is lacking. You can read more about safety and quality in our article on what shilajit is and what to look out for.
Our label says: "Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage. Keep out of reach of young children. Consult your physician before use if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or have a medical condition."
What is known about side effects and how to judge the quality of shilajit is covered in shilajit side effects and shilajit quality: lab tests and real or fake.

- Hard or sticky is normal: warm the jar in your hand or put it somewhere cooler. Store the jar dry and cool.
Frequently asked questions
How many mg is a pea-sized amount of shilajit resin?
About 100 mg. A pea is not an exact measure; the spoon provided helps you take roughly the same amount each time.
Can you take shilajit resin every day?
Our label says 1 to 2 times a day. There is no research on long-term daily use, so discuss it with your doctor if you want to take it for months.
Does shilajit resin need to go in the fridge?
No, a dry and cool place is enough. In the fridge the resin becomes hard; warm the jar in your hand first.
How long does a 50-gram jar of shilajit resin last?
At 100 to 200 mg a day, a 50-gram jar lasts 250 to 500 days.
Can you combine shilajit resin and capsules?
We don't recommend it. Choose one form and stick to the daily dose on that label.
