Product details
Fleur de sel de Guérande
Our fleur de sel comes from the salt pans of Guérande in Brittany, France. It is organic, harvested by hand and contains no additives. Fleur de sel consists of fine, crunchy crystals with a mild, briny taste and is intended for finishing dishes.
What is fleur de sel?
Fleur de sel literally means 'flower of salt'. On warm, dry days with little wind, a thin layer of salt crystals forms on the water of the salt pans. Salt workers carefully skim off this layer by hand. Because this only works under the right weather conditions, fleur de sel is scarce and is regarded as the finest sea salt.
Why GOYU fleur de sel?
- From Guérande: one of the best-known salt regions in France.
- Harvested by hand: the top layer of the salt pan.
- Organic and without additives: no anti-caking agent.
- Crunchy texture: ideal for sprinkling over dishes.
How do you use fleur de sel?
Sprinkle a little over salads, grilled vegetables, meat, fish, chocolate desserts or freshly baked bread, just before serving. That way the crystals stay crunchy. For cooking, a coarser salt is a better choice.
Frequently asked questions about fleur de sel
How is it different from Celtic sea salt?
Fleur de sel is skimmed from the surface of the water and is fine and crunchy. Celtic sea salt (sel gris) is taken from the bottom of the salt pan and is coarser and moister. Also take a look at Celtic Sea Salt 1 kg.
Why is fleur de sel more expensive than regular salt?
Because it is harvested by hand and only forms under specific weather conditions.
Can I put fleur de sel in a salt mill?
There is no need: the crystals are already fine. Sprinkle them over the dish between your fingers.
