Which matcha should you choose?

Matcha is a ritual: you whisk the powder with hot, not boiling water or mix it into (plant-based) milk. We like ceremonial grade best on its own; for a latte or smoothie the regular or premium matcha is fine. Ginkgo, ginseng and biotin are capsules you take with water. Dissolve shilajit resin in a warm drink; take the shilajit capsules with water.

The premium and ceremonial grade come from Japan: sift 1 teaspoon (1 to 2 grams) into a bowl and whisk with 60 to 80 ml of water at 75 to 80 °C. You'll find a bamboo whisk with the matcha sets. The difference between the grades is explained in culinary, premium and ceremonial matcha.

How much caffeine is in them?

Only matcha and the Functional Matcha Blend (57.5% matcha). Matcha contains 18.9 to 44.4 mg of caffeine per gram (Kochman et al., Molecules, 2020), so roughly 19 to 89 mg per cup of 1 to 2 grams. EFSA considers up to 400 mg a day from all sources safe for healthy adults, 200 mg during pregnancy.

Shilajit resin or capsules?

Resin is the traditional form, capsules are easier. Dissolve a pea-sized portion of resin (about 100 mg) in warm, not boiling water, tea or milk, once or twice a day. Of the capsules with 5% fulvic acid you take 2 once or twice a day, of the extract capsules with 50% fulvic acid 1 a day. You'll find every form under buy shilajit.

Can you combine them?

Matcha naturally contains caffeine. If you take both matcha and the Matcha Blend, you get caffeine twice. The Matcha Blend also already contains ginkgo biloba, so adding separate ginkgo capsules doubles up. Stick to the daily dose on the pack for each product.

The ginkgo capsules label says, among other things: not intended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, do not use if you are taking blood thinners or antiplatelet medication, and stop use at least two weeks before surgery or a dental procedure. Don't use ginseng for more than three months in a row. According to the label, the premium and ceremonial grade matcha and the Matcha Blend are not recommended for children and pregnant women.
