Looking to buy turmeric capsules? At GOYU you can choose between two kinds of turmeric capsules: organic turmeric with black pepper, and curcumin extract, standardised to 95% curcumin and also with black pepper. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is the rhizome of a plant from the ginger family. It has been used in Indian cooking for thousands of years.
Turmeric with piperine or 95% curcumin?
- Turmeric with piperine capsules: ground organic turmeric root with black pepper (Piper nigrum), 600 mg per capsule. Turmeric as you know it from the kitchen. 80 capsules per jar.
- Curcumin 95% extract capsules: an extract of turmeric root, standardised to 95% curcumin, with black pepper. 155 mg per capsule, 60 capsules per jar.
What is the difference between turmeric and curcumin?
Turmeric is the whole root, dried and ground. Curcumin is the substance that gives turmeric its bright yellow colour. Ground root contains only a small percentage of it. For a standardised extract, the curcumin is taken from the root and concentrated, so that every capsule has a fixed content of 95% curcumin. Want turmeric as the plant itself, organic and as little processed as possible? Then choose the turmeric capsules. Looking for a fixed amount of curcumin per capsule? Then the extract is a better fit.
Why is there black pepper in it?
Turmeric and black pepper traditionally go together in Indian cooking, for example in curries and golden milk. We follow that classic combination: both capsules contain black pepper. Piperine is the substance that gives black pepper its sharp taste. That is why they are also called turmeric with piperine.
How do you take turmeric capsules?
For both, you take 1 capsule a day with water, preferably with or just after a meal. Do not exceed that daily dose. A jar of turmeric capsules then lasts 80 days, a jar of curcumin extract 60 days. Keep the jar in a fixed spot, for example next to your breakfast, so you don't forget it. We currently don't sell turmeric powder or tablets, only capsules.
What should you keep in mind?
The curcumin extract pack states: do not use if you have a liver or gallbladder condition. Stop using it and consult a doctor if you have symptoms that may point to a liver problem, such as persistent tiredness, loss of appetite, pain in the upper right abdomen, dark urine or yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes. Are you pregnant or breastfeeding, taking medication or do you have a medical condition? Then talk to your doctor first, for both products. The same applies if you want to use the turmeric capsules and the curcumin extract together.
Organic, vegan and lab-tested
The turmeric capsules are organic; the curcumin extract is not certified organic. Both come in a plant-based HPMC capsule, are vegan and contain no fillers, artificial additives or preservatives. They are independently tested for quality and purity. Turmeric also features in our article on superfoods.
Also take a look at our other herbs and superfoods, such as ashwagandha and moringa. Turmeric is also part of two broader collections: the one with biotin and castor oil and the one with reishi, spirulina and chlorella.
Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Stick to the daily dose on the pack.
