  • Electrolyte powder: a sugar-free powder with lemon flavour, with 137 mg sodium, 73 mg potassium and 56 mg magnesium per 6 grams. To mix with water.

Sea salt or rock salt?

Sea salt forms when seawater evaporates in salt pans, as with Celtic sea salt and fleur de sel. Rock salt is mined: Himalayan salt comes from salt layers that formed hundreds of millions of years ago when an ancient sea evaporated. It is pink because of traces of iron oxide. Celtic sea salt is grey because of the clay bed of the salt pans. Which salt you choose is mainly a matter of taste, texture and how you use it. Which salt do you use for what?

If you cook with coarse salt every day, in pasta water, soup or stew, go for Celtic sea salt. If you want to finish a dish with a crunchy pinch of salt, sprinkle fleur de sel over salad, grilled vegetables, fish or a chocolate dessert. Use Himalayan salt while cooking or from the salt grinder at the table. Dead Sea salt is for external use only: dissolve 1 to 2 cups in a warm bath or use it as a scrub.

Is natural salt healthier than table salt?

To be honest: salt is salt. Natural salt consists mostly of sodium chloride, just like ordinary table salt. It contains small amounts of other minerals, but too little to base your choice on. We choose it for the taste and because it is unprocessed. The Health Council of the Netherlands advises adults to have no more than 6 grams of salt a day, and that applies to every salt. No iodine is added to natural salt. If you only use natural salt, get your iodine from other sources, such as bread baked with iodised baking salt.

Frequently asked questions about Natural Salts

What is natural salt?

Natural salt is salt that has been processed as little as possible and contains no additives, such as sea salt from salt pans or rock salt from ancient salt layers. Like table salt, it consists mostly of sodium chloride.

What is the difference between Celtic sea salt and Himalayan salt?

Celtic sea salt is grey, coarse and slightly moist sea salt from the salt pans of Brittany. Himalayan salt is pink rock salt from ancient salt layers in Pakistan. Both consist mostly of sodium chloride. The difference lies in taste, texture and origin.

Does natural salt contain iodine?

No iodine has been added to our salts. Iodised table salt usually does contain it. If you only use natural salt, get your iodine from other sources, such as bread baked with iodised baking salt.

Can you eat Dead Sea salt?

No. Our Dead Sea salt is for external use only, in a warm bath or as a scrub. Avoid contact with the eyes. For the kitchen, choose Celtic sea salt, fleur de sel or Himalayan salt.

Which salt can go in a salt grinder?

Himalayan salt is coarse and suitable for a salt grinder. Celtic sea salt is slightly moist, so a metal grinder can jam. A mortar or ceramic grinder is a better choice for it. Fleur de sel does not need grinding: the crystals are already fine.

How much salt can you have per day?

The Health Council of the Netherlands advises adults to have no more than 6 grams of salt a day, about one teaspoon. That applies to every type of salt, including Celtic sea salt and Himalayan salt.
