Best reishi supplement in the Netherlands: 6 brands compared (2026)

Short answer: There’s no single best reishi supplement. You can compare reishi fairly on five points: species, fruiting body or mycelium, extract with a stated amount, organic certification, and price per day. On October 26, 2026, we checked nine products from six brands. The calculated price per day ranged from €0.20 (on sale) to €1.55. In a DNA study of 20 reishi products, 93% were found to contain a different species from Ganoderma lucidum in the strict sense, namely Ganoderma lingzhi (Loyd et al., 2018).

“Where does it come from, and does it contain lead?” We regularly get this question via the chat on our webshop. It’s a valid question when it comes to reishi, because labels don’t always tell you what’s inside. So I compared six brands, including our own reishi. If another brand offers better value or a lower price, we say so.

Which reishi supplements are available in the Netherlands, and how do they differ?

In the Netherlands, reishi is available as powder, capsules with ground powder, extract capsules, and tincture. Brands include GOYU, Mattisson Healthstyle, Biotona, Vitakruid, Hanoju, and Terranova. Products differ in the part of the mushroom used, the extraction ratio, the stated amount of polysaccharides or beta-glucans, organic certification, and price per day.

Reishi is called gesteelde lakzwam in Dutch, reishi or lingzhi in English, and Ganoderma lucidum in Latin. It’s a hard, shiny wood-growing mushroom that isn’t cooked like an ordinary mushroom. Learn more about its origins and compounds in our article about the reishi mushroom.

How did we compare reishi brands, and what couldn’t we verify?

For each product, on October 26, 2026, we recorded only what was listed on the official product page or on the page of a major online retailer. This included the form, quantity, part of the mushroom, species name, extraction ratio, amounts, organic certification, price, and daily dose. If something wasn’t listed, the table says “not listed.”

Holland & Barrett’s product pages showed no product details that day, so they aren’t included. On kruidvat.nl, we found only a page for Cupplement Reishi Powder, the former name of our own reishi, without a price. We haven’t included it separately.

How do reishi brands compare in one table?

The table lists nine products from six brands, with the information shown on their product pages on October 26, 2026. We calculated the price per day using the package price and the daily serving listed on the page. A lower price per day does not mean the products are equivalent, since their forms and concentrations differ.

Prices checked on October 26, 2026. Promotional prices and shipping costs change quickly, and prices may differ at other stores. For GOYU, Biotona, and Vitakruid, the price for that day was used, with the regular price shown afterward.

Does every reishi supplement really contain Ganoderma lucidum?

Not always, and that is partly due to the naming. In a DNA study of 20 reishi products from the United States, not one product contained Ganoderma lucidum in the strict sense. Ganoderma lingzhi, the Asian species most commonly cultivated, was found predominantly in 93% of the products (Loyd et al., 2018).

The name Ganoderma lucidum was long used for almost all glossy lacquered polypores. According to the researchers, the species in the strict sense is found mainly in Europe and parts of China. In an Italian study of 19 mushroom supplements, the species on the label was confirmed by DNA testing in 6 samples (Risoli et al., 2023).

Five of the six brands in this comparison list Ganoderma lucidum; Hanoju doesn’t state a species name. If you want to know exactly what’s in it, ask each brand for the species identification and certificate of analysis. That includes us.

Why does it matter whether reishi comes from the fruiting body or mycelium?

It matters for the composition and for the regulations. Mycelium is often grown on grain, so part of the product may come from that growth medium. In addition, the novel food status of mycelium may differ from that of the fruiting body.

The fruiting body is the mushroom you see. Mycelium is the thread-like network from which the mushroom grows. In this comparison, six products state that they use the fruiting body, one product states that it uses mycelium, and two don’t specify the part.

What do extraction ratio, polysaccharides, and beta-glucans mean on a reishi label?

An extraction ratio such as 20:1 indicates how much dried reishi was used to make one part extract. A stated content tells you how much of a group of compounds is in the product, making it easier to compare. In this comparison, four extracts state a content, and only Vitakruid also states triterpene content.

Polysaccharides are chains of sugars. Beta-glucans are a specific group of polysaccharides found in the cell walls of mushrooms, so a beta-glucan content is more precise than a polysaccharide content. Triterpenes are the bitter compounds in reishi, such as ganoderic acids.

Also pay attention to the extraction method. Hot water mainly extracts polysaccharides from the mushroom, while alcohol mainly extracts triterpenes. Read more about exactly what beta-glucans are in our article on beta-glucans in mushrooms.

How do you calculate the price per day of a reishi supplement?

Divide the pack price by the number of days it will last at the dosage on the label. So a €21.95 jar with 60 capsules and a dosage of 1 capsule per day costs €0.37 per day. At 2 capsules per day, it costs €0.73. Only then compare forms and contents.

• Powder: price divided by the number of grams, multiplied by your daily dosage in grams. For a teaspoon or coffee spoon without a stated weight, you can’t calculate the exact daily cost.
• Capsules: price divided by the number of capsules, multiplied by the number of capsules per day.
• Sale prices: also calculate using the regular price, so you’re not comparing against a temporary discount. Our own reishi was on sale on October 26, 2026.

Which reishi supplement is right for you if you’re considering price, organic certification or a listed content level?

That depends on what matters to you: the lowest price per gram, an organic extract, a listed triterpene content or a product without additives. Based on the information available on October 26, 2026, a different brand comes out on top for each situation. So our own reishi isn’t the best choice in every respect.

Where does our reishi come from, and what do we test in each batch?

Our reishi is made from the fruiting body of Ganoderma lucidum, using raw materials from China. We make the products in the EU, without fillers, colorants or preservatives. We have a certificate of analysis (CoA) for every batch, which includes heavy metals, among other things, and we’ll send it to you on request via support@getgoyu.com.

• Organic Reishi Powder: 60 g, 2-3 scoops (approx. 2-3 g) per day.
• Organic Reishi Capsules 500 mg: 60 capsules containing ground fruiting body, 2-3 per day. Reishi contributes to the body's natural defences*.
• Reishi Extract Capsules 400 mg: 20:1, water and ethanol, 400 mg extract per capsule, of which 30% is beta-glucans and 40% polysaccharides; 1 capsule once or twice a day. Not organic.

On Judge.me, the three forms had 36 reviews combined on October 15, 2026, with an average rating of 4.55 to 4.7. Customers describe the powder as earthy-tasting and the capsules as convenient and odorless. Our extract doesn’t list its triterpene content, and we don’t state species identification by DNA on the page. If that matters to you, ask us or look at another brand.

What is the best reishi supplement in the Netherlands?

No product comes out on top in every respect. On October 26, 2026, Biotona was the cheapest per gram of organic powder, Vitakruid was the only one to list triterpenes, and at the lowest daily dose, our extract was the cheapest per day when on sale.

Is reishi extract better than reishi powder?

Not necessarily. An extract is more concentrated and often states a content level; powder contains the whole ground mushroom and can be mixed into food or drinks. Choose based on convenience, taste, and how much you want to take.

Why does a jar of reishi say 17:1 or 20:1?

That’s the extraction ratio. With 20:1, 20 grams of dried reishi have been reduced to 1 gram of extract. It tells you about concentration, but not the content of beta-glucans or triterpenes.

Does Kruidvat sell reishi?

On kruidvat.nl, on October 26, 2026, we found only a page for Cupplement Organic Reishi Powder, the former name of our reishi, with no price listed. We didn’t find any other reishi supplements there that day.

Is organic reishi always better?

An EU organic certification indicates how something is grown and inspected, not its content of specific compounds or species. So also check which part of the mushroom is used, whether a content level is stated, and whether a certificate of analysis is available.
