Yerba Mate Tea Set With Bombilla

Yerba Mate: Yerba mate is a traditional South American drink made from the leaves of the Ilex paraguariensis plant, which grows in countries such as Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and parts of Brazil. The leaves are dried, finely ground, and then brewed in hot water. The drink is known for its slightly bitter taste and is often drunk from a special cup with a metal straw, called a "bombilla." Yerba mate contains caffeine and is valued for its stimulating and invigorating effects. It is considered a social drink, often shared at gatherings.

Recommended use: Fill a mate (drinking cup) two-thirds full with yerba (tea). Place your hand flat over the opening of the mate, turn the entire cup upside down, and shake it well. Turn the cup back over and remove your hand from the opening. The fine particles of the yerba will now be on your hand and can be wiped off. Now shake the mate so that the yerba lies on one side of the mate, creating a hollow space on the other side. Hold the mate tilted and pour a little cold water into the hollow. Do not pour too much water; the top of the yerba should not get wet. Let the mate stand tilted for a few minutes until the yerba absorbs the water. Place your thumb on the top (mouth) of the bombilla to close it. Then push the filter part of the bombilla down to the bottom of the mate into the hollow space. Pour hot (just below boiling) water into the hollow just below the rim of the mate. Suck (carefully) the tea through the bombilla and... enjoy your drink.
